Dark powers are threatening a virtual kingdom. Magicians, archers, warriors, and artillery guys gather together to protect the land from various sorcerers, barbarians, orcs, and evil beasts. Players place towers in the best order possible, activate their development, summon support of villagers and sky fire – to defeat all the opponents. which try to reach internal, unprotected territories.
With some variations, such a description can suit many games of the Tower Defense genre. Still, it is Kingdom Rush that has created standards here – of the quality, of the number of possibilities for players, of the gaming excitement. Here is my review of Kingdom Rush, made after playing it for the second time.
The game develops:#Attention #Logic #Planning #Creativity #Improvisation
Simple in theory, excellent in practice
There are lots of tower defense games – they have particular distinguishing features. All sorts of opponents try to reach a distant zone, and players try to stop them on the way by building automatic protection. Defensive towers might be trees that shoot fruits or fantastic machines that produce destructive electric waves. The path for attacking army may be straight or winding. The protection should be built against zombies or even just floating colourful balloons. All the variations of the genre have the same quite simple basis. It depends on the fantasy of developers – how a game will look and feel like for players.
Kingdom Rush is based on a kind of medieval fantasy. The final boss here is a dark sorcerer in his faraway dark tower somewhere in dark mountains. He commands to all sorts of evil creatures to attack nearby lands of humans, so players have a chance to come up with the best defensive strategy possible.
There are only four types of towers in the game, and they can be put only in a few pre-made spots on the map. Still, such a pattern opens many potential playing scenarios. Warriors stop opponents but they need a supportive power of some shooting towers. Artillery causes significant damage, but it’s more effective against groups of creatures – so someone should stop them in one place. Magicians are powerful against some opponents, and Archers play better against others. Every one of this and many other game aspects makes up quite a task for players, gives freedom in choosing their most effective playing style.
Additional support, various mighty heroes, development of towers for a particular match and for a game in general – Kingdom Rush surprises with the quantity and quality of its content. Sounds and images here are brilliant. There are lots of stages and some additional challenges with special conditions. It’s just an excellent gaming adventure.
The Kingdom Rush series
The success of the first game gave a motivation to create a few sequences. They also are gaming masterpieces, worth of playing (if you like the genre, of course)
- The original game Kingdom Rush – it has a free flash version (to play in a browser on computers), free Android and iOS applications, a paid version for Windows and Mac (on Steam). The Steam game gives the full experience. The mobile and flash versions offer in-game purchases.
- Kingdom Rush Frontiers – the same successful recipe with many additions. Players have new towers, opponents, and maps. A great continuation of the great strategic adventure. It has a free browser version too.
- Kingdom Rush Origins – a new instalment that looks quite different from the first two games, but gives the same feeling of excellence.
The series of Kingdom Rush is a fun entertainment of excellent quality. It’s good to see it developing in new instalments, providing gamers with fresh excitement.

The basics of the game Cursed Treasure are quite similar to those of Kingdom Rush, but the game has its authentic spirit:
In Pokémon Duel, you also need a strategy to win matches and to build a great collection of Pokémon figures.
The game Frostpunk is another sort of the strategy genre – it’s about building and developing a settlement in a harsh environment.
